We are still just halfway through a circuit that will culminate in Hacienda del Álamo in October and, garnered for this final, new classifications in the last two competitions in July, the month that will end with the competition at La Finca on Saturday, 31.
Mª J. PEÑAS / ALICANTE. Lo Romero (Pilar de la Horadada- Alicante). July,17. The tee-off was at 08.30 from the first and tenth tees. The weather was unusual, with cloudy conditions, ideal for golf. The results, excellent… even better. All you need to do is look at the numbers. Dizzying, with 56 points (that’s not a mistake, it really is a 5) by Rita Anne East. She made 20 shots below handicap – she played with 33- which put her 16th. In the men’s, the Sánchez brothers Sanchez tied with 43.
Roda Golf. (San Javier-Murcia). July, 24. Off like a rocket at 9.30 o’clock. Pleasant climate and, as one golfer said, “good holes… and bad holes… As usual” on the scorecards of the vast majority of players who packed a course characterised by a commercial feel in the design which makes it accessible to high handicaps.
Among those at the tournament were some of the region’s best amateurs, such as master of steel Pepín Liria, whose 5.6 handicap is evidence of his devotion and zeal for this sport, which he plays very assiduously, particularly since he left the bullring behind. His morning with the clubs, a success; 36 points.
The winner would do it with 39 in his class. And there’ll be more tomorrow. La Finca is ahead of us and, in August: 14 in Augilón, 21 in Bonalba and 28 in Sensol.
